Further Description:
This is a fine example of Queen Anne. There are stone lintels at the windows and door, stone sills and a porch with columns with stone bases. They are pedimented. The roof line is decorated and there is a stone water table with running course. The gable eaves have exposed rafters.
History and Significance:
This house was probably built by Charles C. Selfridge. He was a young attorney and practiced about five years in Napoleon. He was also a student of theology, and moved to Chicago, where he did considerable work in the ministry. Also knows as the Augenstein House; Augenstein was an early undertaker in Napoleon.
