Further Description:
Long, rectangular building is mostly open air. A gabled roof covers the seating area, and is supported by wooden square posts rising from the seating area. Seating area rises at a diagonal to the ground and the building, and extends to the eaves of the rear roof. An observation box appears to set on the roof. It faces the race course, and runs north/south.
History and Significance:
The first grandstand was destroyed by wind in 1918. The present building was built in 1921-22 to replace the first. Originally the grandtand was to face to the south, and run east/west, but plans were changed to have the race course run north/south, so the grandstand had to face west, running the same way as the race course. Significant to Henry County Agricultural and local history. Only such course in Henry County.
Description of Environment and Outbuildings:
Faces race course to the west, set apart from other fairgrounds buildings, and surrounded on the south by stables.
