Further Description:
A mix of Greek and Gothic elements. Entablature returns on all portions. Upright section has 6/6 windows with segmental arches, and brick hood molds. Classic Greek door with side and top lites. Wing portion has pointed windows on 2nd floor with 2 vertical sashes and brick hood molds. Windows on 1st story of wing are 6/6 with segmental arches. A recessed area, covered by a porch connects upright with wing portion. Porch over front door is a later addition. Interior features beautiful hardwoods and fireplaces.
History and Significance:
Very unusual combination of Greek and Gothic revival modes. Built by John H. Vocke about 1865 and lived in by the Vocke family for many years. Site of Vocke's whiskey mill and barn built in 1866.
Description of Environment and Outbuildings:
Formerly faced Miami and Erie canal; now along U. S. Route 424 on outskirts of Napoleon. Surrounded by 'pioreer pines' and at edge of large junkyard.
