Further Description:
Unusual shingeling in front and side gable peaks. Windows are wide (1/1), with a simple molding above. Wrap around porch features beautiful details - turned wood posts and spindles, with carved brackets. There is a corner cut entrance to the porch. A one story section at the rear features the shingles and barged gables of the rest of the house. There is newer cement block foundation under the porch.
History and Significance:
One of finest vernacular Queen Anne in Napoleon. Very similar to house at the corner of South Perry and Meekison. Land originally owned by Napoleon Mayor David Meekison. House probably built by Jacob Brown and owned property from 1896-1900, when it was sold to Anna Mary Rettig. She sold property to Ferdinand Ditmer who owned it until 1925. Church now owned by the Weslyan Church of Napoleon.
Description of Environment and Outbuildings:
On very large lot, at the corner of Third Street. The lot is in a quiet residential setting with numerous trees on the adjacent empty lots.
